Baseball Recap: York Comes Up Short

York fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Downers Grove North on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 3-2. The Dukes were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Trojans earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

Jack Lonergan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, York saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Mendiola, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

York's loss dropped their record down to 20-10. As for Downers Grove North, they pushed their record up to 25-7 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home.

While York had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
