Softball Recap: Tamaqua Beats Panther Valley for Their Fourth Straight Win

Tamaqua entered their tilt with Panther Valley on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 12-0 shutout. The Blue Raiders have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Panthers, too.

Naomi Knitter made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Kolbe Robb was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Megan Linkhorst, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one double.

Tamaqua kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Tamaqua's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Panther Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tamaqua will square off against Pottsville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Blue Raiders are facing the Crimson Tide at the right time seeing as the Crimson Tide are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Panther Valley, they will venture away from home to square off against Executive Education Academy Charter School at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
