Basketball Recap: Millard West Wildcats vs. Burke Bulldogs

Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, a fact the Millard West Wildcats proved on Tuesday. They took down Burke 62-45. Given Millard West's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 220th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Millard West's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Carter LaBorde led the charge by scoring 16 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Reece Carson, who scored 15 points.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Michael White, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Arieon Mcclain, who scored nine points along with five steals.

The win makes it two in a row for Millard West and bumps their season record up to 9-7. As for Burke, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Millard West will take on the Mustangs at TBD on Friday. Millard North knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine games -- so hopefully the Wildcats like a good challenge. As for Burke, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Crimson Pride at 7:15 p.m. on January 31st.
