Central Valley has gone a perfect 7-0 against Chambers/Wheeler Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Central Valley Cougars will host the Chambers/Wheeler Central Renegades at 6:00 p.m. Central Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55 points per game this season.
Last Friday, Central Valley ended up a good deal behind Riverside and lost 61-42. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Chargers: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the loss, Central Valley had strong showings from Zevan Wolf, who posted nine points along with six boards and three steals, and Taesian Soto, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. That's the most steals Wolf has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Dusatko, who put up eight points.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Chambers/Wheeler Central over Newman Grove/St. Edward in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Chambers/Wheeler Central put the hurt on Newman Grove/St. Edward with a sharp 49-24 win. The Renegades pushed the score to 38-16 by the end of the third, a deficit the Panthers had little chance of recovering from.
Chambers/Wheeler Central's win came from a few key players Central Valley will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Daniel Kluver, who on his way to 15 points and eight rebounds. Chambers/Wheeler Central is 2-1 when Kluver posts eight or more boards, but 9-11 otherwise. Michael Jesse was another key player, dropping a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds.
Chambers/Wheeler Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newman Grove/St. Edward only six assists.
The victory made it two in a row for Chambers/Wheeler Central and bumps their season record up to 11-12. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 37.5 points. As for Central Valley, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 15-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Central Valley has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 33.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Chambers/Wheeler Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.5 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
