Basketball Recap: Cole Treva's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ashe County over Avery County + How To Watch

Ashe County lost a heartbreaker to Avery County when they met back in December of 2024, and they left with a heavy heart again on Wednesday. The Huskies received a blow as they fell 75-60 to the Vikings. The defeat continues a trend for the Huskies in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost six in a row.

Ashe County's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cole Treva, who shot 70% from the field en route to 18 points along with five boards and three blocks. Thanks to that strong game, Treva now owns an excellent 53.8% field goal percentage. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Tibbs, who went 6-for-9 on his way to 13 points.

Avery County had a senior duo take command as Hank Johnson almost dropped a double-double with 26 points and nine rebounds and Oak Markland shot 59% from the field to rack up 25 points. Those 25 points set a new season-high mark for Markland. Another player making a difference was Max Milliron, who posted four points and 11 boards.

Ashe County's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Avery County, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ashe County will host Alexander Central at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Huskies' defense better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 72.8 points per game this season. As for Avery County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hampton at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
