Baseball Game Preview: Soledad Aztecs vs. Monterey Dores

The Soledad Aztecs will challenge the Monterey Dores at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Soledad is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

Liberty hit Soledad with a five-run sixth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Aztecs lost 11-3 to the Lions.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Monterey ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past Palma 12-11. The high-scoring effort was just what the Dores needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Johnny Money made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Monterey: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 6-15 otherwise. Money was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

Money wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Connor Rose, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs and three RBI. Rose is becoming a predictor of Monterey's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 7-14 when he doesn't). Aiden Velarde also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Monterey's win bumped their record up to 9-15. As for Soledad, their loss dropped their record down to 8-16.
