Softball Game Preview: Rowland Raiders vs. Charter Oak Chargers

For the second straight game, Rowland will face off against Charter Oak. The Raiders will be playing at home against the Chargers at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Rowland has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Charter Oak will arrive with seven straight victories.

Rowland fell victim to Charter Oak and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Chargers, falling 17-0.

For Charter Oak's part, Leila Diebert was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Diebert has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jayla Brown, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mikayla Diebert, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Charter Oak always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Rowland's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5-1. As for Charter Oak, they pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season.
