Spring Creek is 2-8 against Fernley since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Spartans will welcome the Vaqueros at 3:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Spring Creek is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Saturday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 14-12 heartbreaker at the hands of Lowry. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Ashlynn Sorenson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Hannah Montoya was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
Meanwhile, Fernley came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Dust Devils with a sharp 13-3 win. The Vaqueros might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.
Emma Masters spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Taylor Tollestrup was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 4-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted over her last seven contests. Another player making a difference was Sara Moffett, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Fernley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dayton only posted an OBP of .429.
Fernley's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-6. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Spring Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12.
