Baseball Recap: Discovery Comes Up Short

If Discovery was feeling good fresh off their 18-0 takedown of Haines City last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Discovery Spartans fell just short of the Mulberry Panthers by a score of 4-3 on Friday.

Jose Quintero and Aaron Chevere stepped up to the plate in a big way. Quintero scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Chevere scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Ellory, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases.

Discovery dropped their record down to 3-7 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Mulberry, their record is now 8-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Discovery will challenge Lake Placid at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Lake Placid will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Discovery surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mulberry, they will face off against Fort Meade at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Mulberry's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Fort Meade's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
