Basketball Recap: Cheraw's Loss Ends Seven-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Cheraw lost against Springfield back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Cheraw Wolverines fell 50-40 to the Springfield Longhorns.

Kieran Harris and Braislea Groves certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Harris almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Groves posted seven points and 11 boards. That's the most boards Harris has posted since back in November of 2023.

Springfield found their leader in freshman Cobi Mackey, who went 10-for-24 to rack up 23 points and seven steals. Mackey is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last ten games she's played. Jersey Speck was another key player, putting up 15 points and six steals.

Cheraw's defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-6. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.9 points on average over those games. As for Springfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.

Cheraw didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 36-33 victory against Holly on the 20th. As for Springfield, they have also already played their next contest, a 56-23 win against Cotopaxi on the 21st.
