Preview: Union Academy Cardinals vs. North Stanly Comets
Union Academy is 1-9 against North Stanly since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Union Academy Cardinals will be staying on the road to face off against the North Stanly Comets at 6:00 p.m. on December 29th. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Union Academy scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 85-51 victory over Valor Preparatory Academy on the road. The win was just what Union Academy needed coming off of a 77-38 loss in their prior game.
Union Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aidan Scruitsky, who scored 30 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Scruitsky has scored at least 25% of Union Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Trevin Goodson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, North Stanly made easy work of Central Academy on Wednesday and carried off a 56-34 win. The victory was just what North Stanly needed coming off of a 89-55 loss in their prior matchup.
Union Academy's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-8. As for North Stanly, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.
Union Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their game against North Stanly when the teams last played back in February, but they still walked away with a 71-67 victory. Will Union Academy repeat their success, or does North Stanly have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
