Softball Game Preview: Newtown Nighthawks vs. Cheshire Rams

The Newtown Nighthawks will face off against the Cheshire Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Wednesday, Newtown got the win against Bethel by a conclusive 12-2. The win continues a trend for the Nighthawks in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won nine in a row.

Meanwhile, Cheshire put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Wednesday. They didn't even let Amity Regional on the board, marking the Rams' second-straight 6-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Rams have posted against the Spartans since April 22, 2022.

Not much got past Jenica Matos, who gave up just a hit and racked up 19 Ks to keep Amity Regional off the board.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Molly Fleming, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan McCue, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Cheshire's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Newtown, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.
