Basketball Recap: Columbia's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

Columbia suffered their closest loss since February 3, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of the North Marion Colts by a score of 38-35. The Tigers' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

When it comes to explaining why Columbia lost, don't look at Zavian Douglas. Despite the final result, he went 9 for 11 on his way to 22 points and six rebounds. Douglas' afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marlin Haywood, who posted seven points.

It was another big night for Lamont Sweeting JR, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds for North Marion. Coy Sizemore was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.

Columbia's loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for North Marion, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Columbia Tigers face off against the Buchholz Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Buchholz will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Columbia surely won't give up without a fight. As for North Marion, they will take on Olympic Heights in a tournament on January 18th. North Marion is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.3 points per game this season.
