Preview: Elbert County Blue Devils vs. Commerce Tigers
The Elbert County Blue Devils will be playing at home against the Commerce Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Elbert County sitting on six straight wins and Commerce on five.
Last Friday, Elbert County earned a 21-9 victory over Rabun County.
Elbert County relied on the efforts of Jayvyn Hickman, who threw for 80 yards and a touchdown, and Jacari Barnett, who rushed for 154 yards. Barnett is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played.
Meanwhile, Commerce got themselves on the board against Athens Christian on Friday, but Athens Christian never followed suit. They breezed by the Eagles at home to the tune of 39-0. The result was nothing new for Commerce, who have now won three games by 34 points or more so far this season.
Elbert County has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in seven of their first eight matchups, giving them a 7-1 record. As for Commerce, their victory was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1.
Elbert County took their win against Commerce in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 41-21. Will Elbert County repeat their success, or does Commerce have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
