Recap: Rocky Mountain Lobos vs. Legacy Lightning
The Rocky Mountain Lobos had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They strolled past Legacy with points to spare, taking the game 62-45. Given Rocky Mountain's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Legacy is ranked 135th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Rocky Mountain to victory, but perhaps none more so than Meela Delap, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sara Chicco, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
When it comes to explaining why Legacy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Olivia Mortensen. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 30 points and 21 rebounds. That was a full 66.7% of Legacy's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Gianna Schmidt was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Rocky Mountain has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Legacy, their loss dropped their record down to 6-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rocky Mountain will face off against Horizon at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Horizon is on a eight-game streak of home wins, Rocky Mountain a seven-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Legacy, they will head out on the road to face off against Fossil Ridge at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Fossil Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
