Baseball Recap: Valparaiso's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Valparaiso had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Hobart Brickies. That's two games straight that the Vikings have won by exactly two runs.

Zach Troxel tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits. He has become a key player for Valparaiso: the team is undefeated when he allows at most three earned runs, but 3-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Valparaiso's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Trevor Fenters, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Another was Gabe Bush, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Valparaiso pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Hobart, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-6.

Valparaiso wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 5-2 loss against Columbus East on the 26th. As for Hobart, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 4-0 defeat against Portage on the 26th.
