Softball Recap: Hiland Takes a Loss

Hiland extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 5-17. They lost 12-0 to the Smithville Smithies. That's two games in a row now that the Hawks have lost by exactly 12 runs.

Hiland saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jalyn Immel, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

As for Smithville, their record is now 9-13. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the game before.

On Smithville's side, Addy Maxymiv was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Maxymiv was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ali Horst, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Reagan Gherian was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hiland will face off against Fairless at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Smithville, they will square off against Waynedale at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Golden Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.43 runs per game on average), something the Smithies will no doubt try to take advantage of.
