Softball Preview: Aptos Mariners vs. Alisal Trojans
The Aptos Mariners will challenge the Alisal Trojans on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Aptos is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They never let Palo Alto get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Mariners are really starting to get used to good results now that the team has won 16 straight.
Aptos got a massive performance out of Nova Neu, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Neu has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Burgueno, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Saturday as neither Alisal nor Piedmont Hills made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Trojans blew past the Pirates 8-1.
Abigail Walker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Micah Smith, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Brooklyn Smith also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Aptos' record now sits at 23-4. As for Alisal, their record is now 18-5.
