Preview: Matoaca Warriors vs. Hanover Hawks
The Matoaca Warriors will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Hanover Hawks at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Matoaca focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday.
Matoaca's recent rough patch got a bit rougher after their third straight loss. They fell 51-38 to Midlothian.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Sydney Richardson, who scored 16 points. She scored a full 42.1% of Matoaca's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kendra Carter, who scored six points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, the stars were shining brightly for Hanover in a 62-45 victory over Mechanicsville last Friday.
Matoaca's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Hanover, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Matoaca strolled past Hanover when the teams last played back in February by a score of 73-58. Will Matoaca repeat their success, or does Hanover have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
