Baseball Recap: Meade Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Meade proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 13) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Northwestern Wildcats.

Michael Safford was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits (and only one walk). Safford was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Laurent Bekima, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

Meade's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-10. As for Northwestern, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

The future could be bright for both Meade and Northwestern: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. The Mustangs will try to hand Glen Burnie their sixth-straight loss when the two meet at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Northwestern will look to extend Bladensburg's five-game losing streak when they meet at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
