Buena hasn't had much luck against Sunnyside recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Buena will host Sunnyside at 4:00 p.m. Buena has given up an average of 12.9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Buena is headed into Monday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Friday. They fell 14-9 to Mountain View.
Ariella Antemann put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
In other batting news, Amaya Serrano made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Hailey Larson was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Sunnyside made easy work of Pueblo on Saturday and carried off a 12-2 win. Considering the Blue Devils have won six games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Buena, Sunnyside also got a great game from a two-way player: Ashley Rosthenhausler. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Rosthenhausler was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Soleil Ponce and Kasandra Alcaraz did most of the damage at the plate: Ponce scored three runs while going 3-for-4, while Alcaraz went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and one stolen base. Ponce continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Noelani Martinez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Sunnyside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pueblo only posted an OBP of .238.
Sunnyside is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. Buena's loss dropped their record down to 1-15.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Buena hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Sunnyside struggles in that department as they've averaged .360. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Buena came up short against Sunnyside in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, falling 5-0. Will Buena have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
