Softball Recap: Martinsville Drops Season-High Score on Zavalla

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Martinsville). They blew past the Zavalla Eagles 24-18 on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Pirates as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.

Jaycie Latham and Emmy Locke did most of the damage at the plate: Latham scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Locke scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Those three runs gave Locke a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alexis Colorado, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.

Martinsville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .680. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-9. As for Zavalla, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Martinsville will head out to take on Broaddus at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Zavalla does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
