Basketball Recap: Mineral Ridge Skates Past Jackson-Milton with Ease

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Mineral Ridge's strategy against Jackson-Milton on Monday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Mineral Ridge Rams blew the Jackson-Milton Bluejays out of the water with a 65-24 final score. With the Rams ahead 39-13 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Mineral Ridge's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ava Hulett led the charge by going 8 of 13 en route to 18 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Gilbert, who went 6 of 9 on her way to 14 points.

Several Bluejays players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Amani Yasin, who went 6 for 14 on her way to 13 points and eight rebounds. That was a full 54.2% of Jackson-Milton's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Mineral Ridge's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.7 points per game. As for Jackson-Milton, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mineral Ridge will square off against South Range at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Mineral Ridge knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully South Range likes a good challenge. As for Jackson-Milton, they will face off against Springfield at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday.
