Softball Recap: Nelson County Takes a Loss

Nelson County had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 3-11 to make it four. They lost 6-0 to the William Campbell Generals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Generals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-4 back in April.

As for William Campbell, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

For William Campbell's part, the result came thanks to Peighton Francis's shutout, as she gave up just six hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Arnesia Dews, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lilly Puckette, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.

Looking ahead, Nelson County will square off against Appomattox County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Governors will need to watch out since the Raiders have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games. As for William Campbell, they will challenge George Washington at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.5 runs per game on average), something the Generals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
