Baseball Recap: Thoreau's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

There's no place like home for Thoreau, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the Wingate Bears 11-10. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Hawks as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Matthew Shirley was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Thoreau: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-13 otherwise. Jordan Calladitto was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Thoreau always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive matchups.

Thoreau's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 4-14. As for Wingate, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-10.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Thoreau beat the Bears by a score of 10-7 later that day.
