Basketball Recap: Cuero Comes Up Short

Cuero was the 61-43 winner over John F. Kennedy when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Cuero Gobblers were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 59-58 to the John F. Kennedy Rockets. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (56), the Gobblers still had to take the loss.

Leading John F. Kennedy to victory were Rocky Apolinar and Phillip Magallanez. Apolinar dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards, while Magallanez posted 13 points and six assists. That's the most rebounds Apolinar has posted since back in November of 2023. Another player making a difference was Latrell Fields, who earned eight points and five boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Cuero and nudges their season record down to 4-7. As for John F. Kennedy, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-17.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Gonzales the next time they take the court. Cuero will host Gonzales at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while John F. Kennedy will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
