Baseball Recap: Delta Drops Season-High Score on Esparto

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Delta). They blew past the Esparto Spartans 17-2 on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Saints considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Spencer Buckley and Chase Parkinson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Buckley didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Parkinson tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Delta: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 1-5 otherwise. At the plate, Buckley scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Parkinson scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits Buckley has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Max Danila was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Cole Hutson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.

Delta was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Delta's record is now 4-5. As for Esparto, they dropped their record down to 0-7 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Delta wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 11-10 win against Leroy Greene Academy on the 10th. Esparto has also already played their next contest (against Elite), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
