Softball Recap: Mt. Carmel Golden Aces vs. Mt. Vernon Wildcats

It was a good run, but Mt. Carmel unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 13-1 to the Mt. Vernon Wildcats. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest runs Mt. Carmel has scored all season.

Mt. Carmel saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hannah Parr, who went 1-for-3 with a double.

On Mt. Vernon's side, Alaina Allyn and Ali Lyke made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Allyn struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Lyke tossed an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Allyn scored two runs while going 4-for-6, while Lyke scored two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Cora Bell was incredible, going 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Taylor Mason, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.

Mt. Carmel's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-8. As for Mt. Vernon, they now have a winning record of 11-10.

Mt. Carmel will head out on the road to square off against Edwards County at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mt. Vernon, they will be playing at home against Evansville Harrison at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mt. Vernon is facing Evansville Harrison at the right time seeing as Evansville Harrison is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
