The Valders Vikings will venture away from home to face off against the Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Valders is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Valders proved they can win big on Monday (they won by ten) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Kiel 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Vikings have posted since May 21, 2024.
Megan Hochkammer made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Hochkammer was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Anna Olson was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Audrey Wagner also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Meanwhile, while it was Whitefish Bay who put the first runs on the board on Thursday, it was Hartford who put up more. The Blue Dukes lost 10-1 to the Orioles. The Blue Dukes haven't had much luck with the Orioles recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Valders has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Whitefish Bay, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Valders hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Whitefish Bay struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Valders skirted past Whitefish Bay 5-3 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Blue Dukes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
