Basketball Recap: Abbey Sachanowicz's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Incarnate Word Academy over Taft

Incarnate Word Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 35-31 heartbreaker at the hands of the Taft Greyhounds. The Angels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Greyhounds apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2015.

Several Angels players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Abbey Sachanowicz, who posted 12 points and eight rebounds. Sarah Cory was another key player, putting up two points along with seven boards and three steals.

Taft got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Krista Amaya out in front who put up 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Amaya is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Josette Aparicio, who had eight points along with nine boards and three steals.

Incarnate Word Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Taft, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.

Incarnate Word Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Geneva at 5:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Taft, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-49 defeat against London on the 27th.
