Volleyball Recap: Tanque Verde Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Tanque Verde and Monument Valley squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Tanque Verde had to settle for second. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs. The Hawks' defeat signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.

Tanque Verde started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-16, 25-22, 25-14.

Their offense was headlined by Delaney Mikkelson and Megan Hadley, who picked up nine kills apiece. They got some help from Cayla Vimmerstedt and her 20 assists. She was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Tanque Verde's loss dropped their record down to 21-12. As for Monument Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 29-10 record this season.

Tanque Verde does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Monument Valley, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Gilbert Christian on the 8th.
