Softball Game Preview: Loris Lions vs. Pee Dee Academy Golden Eagles

The Loris Lions will head out on the road to take on the Pee Dee Academy Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Loris took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Georgetown as they made off with a 10-4 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Lions considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Bellamie Gore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Kenzie McCoy and Haley Spence did most of the damage at the plate: McCoy went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs, while Spence scored a run while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Spence a new career-high in doubles (two). Caitie Black was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Loris kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Pee Dee Academy entered their tilt with South Florence on Wednesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Bruins with a sharp 8-1 win.

Pee Dee Academy pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Loris, their record is now 9-7-1.

Loris couldn't quite get it done against Pee Dee Academy when the teams last played back in March as they fell 4-1. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
