The Alvarado Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Godley Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Alvarado has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Alvarado came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 22-4 to Hillsboro. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Indians have suffered against the Eagles since April 5, 2022.
Payton Slovak made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Godley made sure to put some runs up on the board against Stephenville on Tuesday. Godley put the hurt on Stephenville with a sharp 13-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Hayden Keeton made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Karlee Clark, who went 3-for-5 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sierra Beratto, who scored two runs and stole Two bases.
The victory was the third in a row for Godley, bringing their record for this year to 12-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Alvarado, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.
Alvarado might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Godley when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Alvarado avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
