Baseball Game Preview: Baldwin-Woodville Blackhawks vs. Somerset Spartans

For the second straight game, Baldwin-Woodville will face off against Somerset. The Blackhawks will welcome the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Baldwin-Woodville is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest loss since May 16, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Somerset by a score of 3-1.

For Somerset's part, Mason Schmidt was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Schmidt has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Schmidt wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kane Donnelly, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Somerset's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.13 runs across that stretch. As for Baldwin-Woodville, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
