Mt. Vernon had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Heath Bulldogs with a sharp 17-6 win. Considering the Yellowjackets have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Miranda Oswalt looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Brooke Dovenbarger was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carly Kennedy, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Mt. Vernon's victory bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Heath, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
Coming up, Mt. Vernon will challenge Strasburg-Franklin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Heath, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Northridge at 5:00 p.m. on May 5.
