Basketball Recap: Minersville Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Minersville can now relate to. They took a 61-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Catasauqua Rough Riders on Saturday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Battlin' Miners came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Rough Riders are ranked 266th).

When it comes to explaining why Minersville lost, don't look at Dante Carr. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 21 points and 12 boards. Those 12 rebounds gave Carr a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Shazier Bethea, who went 5-for-10 en route to 13 points.

Minersville's defeat dropped their record down to 22-5. As for Catasauqua, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-10.

Coming up, Minersville will challenge Warrior Run at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Minersville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.4 points per game this season. Catasauqua does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
