Softball Recap: Encinal Jets vs. Miramonte Matadors
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Encinal had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Miramonte Matadors as they made off with a 14-4 victory. The result was nothing new for Encinal, who have now won 14 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Cameron Tran made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Tran was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, a triple, and a double.
In other batting news, Encinal let Riley Chadwick and Sherrielyn Ferrer loose on the outfield. Chadwick went 2-for-2 with a home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Ferrer went 2-for-3 with three RBI, a triple, and a run. Another player making a difference was Kiely Wong, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
On Miramonte's side, Gianna Granzella was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Granzella has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last nine times she's played.
The win was the fifth in a row for Encinal, bringing their record for this year to 21-4. As for Miramonte, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-8.
Encinal will play host again on Friday to welcome Archie Williams, where first pitch is scheduled at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Encinal: 3.4, Archie Williams: 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Miramonte does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
