Baseball Recap: Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Takes a Loss

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Carrollwood Day Patriots. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 back in February.

Dylan McNeil was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Steele Thalleen was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Pizzo, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one RBI.

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Carrollwood Day, they pushed their record up to 13-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bishop McLaughlin Catholic will take on Berkeley Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hurricanes 4, the Buccaneers 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Carrollwood Day, they will face off against Clearwater Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
