Baseball Game Preview: Gunderson Grizzlies vs. Christopher Cougars

The Gunderson Grizzlies will square off against the Christopher Cougars at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Gunderson has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Gunderson fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Silver Creek on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 11-10. The Grizzlies' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Jordan Avila put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.

Avila wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Chanze Jaime, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Jaime is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Brandon Salgado was another, going 1-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Christopher). They were the clear victor by an 8-2 margin over Pacific Grove on Thursday. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Breakers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Gunderson's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 4-3. As for Christopher, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
