Preview: Simi Valley Pioneers vs. Mira Costa Mustangs
Simi Valley has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Mira Costa Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
With a playoff game on the line, Simi Valley rose to the challenge on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 32-29 victory over the Oilers.
Simi Valley relied on the efforts of Jesse Sereno, who rushed for 28 yards and a touchdown, and Brice Hawkins, who rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Mira Costa entered their tilt with Murrieta Mesa with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Mira Costa walked away with a 34-24 win over Murrieta Mesa on Friday.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mira Costa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Reese Leonard, who picked up 156 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Leonard has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more receiving yards the last three times he's played. Charlie O'connor also helped out as he racked up 151 receiving yards.
Their wins bumped Simi Valley to 8-5 and Huntington Beach to 6-7.
