Basketball Game Preview: Mountain Heritage Cougars vs. Asheville Cougars + How To Watch

Mountain Heritage is a perfect 5-0 against Asheville since December of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. Mountain Heritage will venture away from home to take on Asheville at 6:30 p.m. Mountain Heritage will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

While Mountain Heritage's victory against Erwin wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cougars narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Warriors 38-36.

Maggie Neill had an outrageously good game as she dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in blocks (four). Kiana Adams was another key player, putting up three points in addition to seven boards and three blocks.

Meanwhile, Asheville played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Landrum and fell 66-35. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mountain Heritage will need to focus on slowing down Elliot Scully, one of several Asheville players who made an impact when they last played. She posted four points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Taia Lytle, who earned seven points along with five boards and three blocks.

Asheville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Mountain Heritage, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Mountain Heritage has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 35.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Asheville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.2 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Everything came up roses for Mountain Heritage against Asheville in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 76-39 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mountain Heritage since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
