Baseball Game Preview: Luling Eagles vs. Nixon-Smiley Mustangs

The Luling Eagles will square off against the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Luling has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since February 28.

Karnes City hit Luling with a seven-run fifth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Eagles came up short against the Badgers, falling 15-4.

Luling saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jonah Hernandez, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That run marked the first that Hernandez has scored this season.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Nixon-Smiley's offense. They lost 12-0 to Stockdale on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 21 runs in the game before, the Mustangs' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Nixon-Smiley's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Luling, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.

Luling came out on top in a nail-biter against Nixon-Smiley when the teams last played back in April of 2025, sneaking past 3-1. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
