Softball Recap: Foothill Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Foothill can now relate to. They fell just short of the Liberty Lions by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Falcons of the 5-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

Myra Galzie was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits.

On the hitting side, Alexa Sponsel was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.

Foothill's defeat dropped their record down to 15-9-1. As for Liberty, their victory was their 14th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-5.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Foothill is taking a road trip to square off against Livermore at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cowboys have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Liberty, they will square off against Casa Grande at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Gauchos will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight.
