Football Game Preview: Powell Panthers vs. West Rebels

The Powell Panthers are taking a road trip to take on the West Rebels at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Powell is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Clinton 59-28 on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Panthers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee football rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Dragons are ranked 178th).

Deuce Rodgers had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 127 yards and three scores on only ten carries, while also throwing for 159 yards while completing 75% of his passes. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 103.4 rushing yards per game. Johonauan Moore was another key player, rushing for 81 yards and one touchdown.

Powell's run defense was locked in: Clinton could only muster 3.4 yards per carry. The team can thank Iverson Garcia for the heroic effort on defense: he. Powell didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.4.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Powell, racking up 23 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Zi Jackson, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, West entered their tilt with Karns on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They breezed past the Beavers to the tune of 45-7. Considering the Rebels have won four games by more than 34 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

The win got West back to even at 4-4. As for Powell, their record now sits at 7-1.

Powell came up short against West in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, falling 30-18. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
