Baseball Game Preview: Paoli Rams vs. Perry Central Commodores

The Paoli Rams are taking a road trip to square off against the Perry Central Commodores at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Paoli will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Paoli proved they can win big last Monday (they won by seven) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 win over Crawford County. With that victory, the Rams brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

The team relied heavily on Garrett Hickman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Paoli's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-4 when he doesn't). Aidan Hickman was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

McLean County hit Perry Central with a seven-run seventh inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Commodores lost 9-3 to the Cougars. The Commodores have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Perry Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zac Mitchell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Perry Central now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Paoli, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Paoli has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Perry Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Paoli came out on top in a nail-biter against Perry Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 9-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
