Basketball Recap: Newark Find Success

Newark had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 53-52 win over the Aurora Christian Eagles. For the Norsemen, this counts as revenge for the 67-35 victory the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Newark's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dylan Long, who posted 26 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Long's evening made it 13 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Wills, who put up nine points in addition to seven steals and five boards.

Newark's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-7. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.5 points per game. As for Aurora Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-5 record this season.

Newark will venture away from home to face off against Illinois Math & Science Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Aurora Christian, they will welcome Bishop McNamara at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Bishop McNamara's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matchups.
