Baseball Game Preview: Capital Cougars vs. Parkersburg Big Reds

The Capital Cougars will head out to challenge the Parkersburg Big Reds at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Capital was handed a 14-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Riverside 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since May 10, 2024.

Meanwhile, Parkersburg waltzed into their game on Thursday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Black Eagles. That's two games straight that the Big Reds have won by just one run.

Peyton Davis was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Parkersburg: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-10 otherwise. Cooper Cancade was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Parkersburg's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Capital, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-13.

Capital suffered a grim 15-2 defeat to Parkersburg when the teams last played on April 1st. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
