Baseball Game Preview: Vero Beach Indians vs. Viera Hawks

The Vero Beach Indians will challenge the Viera Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Vero Beach is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Vero Beach barely beat Martin County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Vero Beach put the hurt on Martin County with a sharp 8-1 victory on Wednesday. Considering the Indians have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Cody Morgan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Vero Beach's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Marshall Cobb, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. What's more, Cobb posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February. Another was Daveyon Kelly, who scored two runs and stole two bases.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Viera's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Satellite by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Hawks have suffered since April 25, 2024.

Vero Beach pushed their record up to 16-0 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Viera, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.
