Basketball Recap: Frontier Academy Comes Up Short

Frontier Academy lost against Brush back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Frontier Academy Wolverines came up short against the Brush Beetdiggers, falling 52-32. The Wolverines were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-11.

Despite the loss, Frontier Academy still got an impressive performance from Emily Gesick, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. Gesick has been hot, having also posted three or more steals the last seven times she's played.

Even though they lost, Frontier Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Brush's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sarah Becker, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brisa Aguirre-Garcia, who posted four points along with eight boards and six steals.

Frontier Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Brush, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1.

Frontier Academy and Brush could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. Frontier Academy (ranked 246th) will meet Resurrection Christian (ranked 24th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Brush (ranked 68th) will meet Merino (ranked 15th) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
