Softball Game Preview: Notre Dame Academy Rebels vs. South Colonels

The Notre Dame Academy Rebels are taking a road trip to take on the South Colonels at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

As a matter of fact, Notre Dame Academy put up the most runs they have all season on Thursday. They put the hurt on St. Bernard's Central Catholic with a sharp 12-3 win. With that victory, the Rebels brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.

Erin Connor was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.

In other batting news, Abby Spaulding was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Erika Larson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base.

Notre Dame Academy lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, it was a classic North v. South duel when South faced off against North on Wednesday. The Colonels' pitchers stepped up to hand the Polar Bears a 20-0 shutout. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

South's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Notre Dame Academy, their record is now 3-1.

Notre Dame Academy beat South 3-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2018. Do the Rebels have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Colonels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
